Week 2

Tutorial - What is Transmedia Storytelling ?

What I understood about our first tutorial is that transmedia stories differs from cross-media, which declines a main content on complementary media. Transmedia articulates an original narrative universe on various media. This universe is broadcasted on various supports media (TV, Internet, smartphones, radio, publishing, tablet, street art etc.) who bring, thanks to their specificity of use custom and their technological capacity, a complementary additional look on the universe of the story. The various elements which compose this universe can be independently investigated and differed from each other: it is about multiple entry points in the story.

This new kind of story affects a wider public and helps the circulation of the audience from one media to the other: the spectator can discover for example the story on the Internet, keep in touch to the everyday life on the mobile, and follow it weekly on the television. By the use of interactive media and the new information about technologies and communication, this enriched the experience of entertainment, that looks for a more active participation and a deeper commitment on behalf of the aimed public.

The used media are not at all linear (on the Internet, the story settles in time, whereas the broadcasting on TV is punctual). Transmedia definitely modifies the classic modes of story.
